About VIL Academy
VIL Academy was created to provide families with effective and affordable ELA instruction. Designed to go beyond current school instruction and rigid textbook learning, VIL Academy's curricula enable students to become critical thinkers, independent readers, and creative writers. The goal is to empower students to excel in leading colleges and universities -- and beyond.
To realize this goal, VIL Academy employs nationally-recognized, leading technology to engage students, conduct formative and summative assessments, and produce peerless educational lesson plans and materials. In keeping with leveraging technology for teaching, an AI Tutor will be available for students in the 2026-27 academic year.
Elementary students become familiar with a wide range of non-fiction as well as fiction passages. They also learn core skills for critical thinking about essays and how to write formal English essays. Middle and high school students read passages in history, economics, the physical sciences, psychology, and sociology, and literature. They also learn to write a range of formal essay types such as expository, argumentative, rhetorical analysis, and synthesis essays. Courses beginning at grade 3 and continuing through high school give students myriad opportunities for learning under the expert mentorship of William D. Bajusz, Ph.D.
Founder and Educator
Dr. Bajusz ("Mr. William" or "Mr. Bill" to students and parents) is an accomplished teacher, tutor, and academic coach. After leaving a career of over thirty years in private industry and government, he has devoted himself to tutoring and teaching reading comprehension, critical thinking and problem solving, advanced grammar, and writing to elementary, middle, and high school students. In addition to having taught at the university level as a graduate student, he has been fully committed to teaching for over a decade, starting in 2011. He teaches grades 3 through 12, Academies of Loudoun test preparation, Thomas Jefferson High School of Science and Technology admissions test preparation, and SAT/PSAT and ACT test preparation (English and math). He emphasizes teaching writing mastery in all grades from the perspective of an accomplished author. Students benefit from his first career during which he authored two books, over a dozen articles in refereed journals, and over 100 research and conference papers presented in the US and abroad.
Whether it is a fourth grader's essay, a perfectly crafted admissions essay for the Academies of Loudoun or for Thomas Jefferson High School of Science and Technology, or a high school student's research paper, Dr. Bajusz brings the same rigor to his students that he brought to analysis and position papers for the Department of State and Department of Defense.
