I didn't start my career in the classroom -- I started it in private industry meetings and in offices in the Pentagon and the State Department after receiving my Ph.D. When I started teaching grades 3 through 12 over 15 years ago, I had already completed a career of over 30 years in which I was a vice president in a private firm with over two billion dollars in revenue, serving the Department of Defense. I founded VIL Academy to carry out one mission -- empowering the next generation.

An Empowering Curriculum
I have developed curricula for Grades 3 through 12 , and now personally teach those classes online to a limited enrollment of approximately 90 students. What's more, I have a successful track record of teaching test prep courses for the Academies of Loudoun and Thomas Jefferson High School of Science and Technology in Northern Virginia, the SAT (and PSAT), and the ACT.

How VIL Academy Functions
Students access premium ELA curricula from anywhere in online classes scheduled outside of school hours. Once enrolled, students receive comprehensive, proven, tailored lesson plans that build critical thinking skills, advanced vocabulary, comprehension, and exceptional writing ability. Lesson materials are delivered directly to the student via a nationally-recognized, web-based platform widely praised by educators for its real-time, actionable assessment data. These materials include reading passages, study materials, grammar worksheets, and essay prompts. The teacher is able to monitor student work live, provide instant feedback, and adjust instruction immediately. Students have the opportunity to receive feedback on reading comprehension questions as they answer questions. Students receive a copy of all material used by the teacher to instruct on a topic. Leading technology provides both formative and summative assessments.
